ZF Test Technician in Lafayette, Indiana
Division T - Commercial Vehicle
This position will work as a member of ZF’s Commercial Vehicle Steering Engineering Laboratory in Lafayette, IN to support component and vehicle level testing. Specific products include Commercial Vehicle steering gears, pumps and columns. The primary objectives of this role are to work closely with development engineers and lab senior staff to perform testing to engineering specification of all ZF steering system components. The successful candidate for this position must have a high mechanical aptitude, broad background in automotive component work, and proficiency in basic mechanical gages and measurement systems.
Assemble and disassemble products for customer samples and test samples. (Requires handling assemblies and sub-assemblies that weigh up to 30 lbs.) Mount these products for test onto test fixtures with mounting bolt torques up to 600 ft-lbs (3 ft torque wrench).
Set up and conduct tests for product validation, quality audit, warranty analysis, line-return analysis and other special requests from Product Engineering. Use of instrumentation and computers to control and monitor is required. Record and report results as needed.
On vehicle evaluations – installation of our product onto vehicles as well as instrumentation installation. Several re-installations may be required depending on the test results for development projects.
Provide routine maintenance of machine tools and test machines and keep the work area clean and orderly.
Develop a background of knowledge and understanding of engineering practices based on ongoing substantial training and acquired experience.
Meet testing timelines for urgent test projects. This may require overtime on short notice.
Utilize 5S methodology, keep the work area clean and orderly.

Respond to all customers, both internal and external, to resolve product issues through testing.
Required Education, Skills and Experience:
High School diploma and 5 years experience in an engineering environment OR Associates Degree in a technology field or specialized technical degree and 2 years experience in an engineering environment required. Associates degree preferred.
Familiarity with machining, ability to read blueprints, ability to use measuring equipment and strong mechanical ability required.
Experience with electronic equipment and test control programming preferred
Some travel may be required, approx. 10% domestic and 2% international
